Welcome to this cover song lesson — and this one is a real gem. "Teach Your Children" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is one of those timeless songs that sounds beautiful, feels meaningful, and is more approachable on guitar than you might expect.

We've packed the lesson page with everything you need to learn it quickly and have fun doing it:

  • Lesson Video

  • Jam Tracks

  • Chord Charts and Sheet Music

Is this song right for your skill level?

We've listed this one as an easy song on the GuitarFam site — and here's why. The entire song can be played with just three open chords, one bar chord, and a single strumming pattern. That said, we've included five progressive strumming levels to choose from, so whether you're just getting comfortable with chords or you're ready to add more movement and feel, there's a level for you.

Fingerstyle players, we haven't forgotten you — there's a dedicated fingerstyle pattern included as well.

We've also added some chord embellishments on the D, G, and A major chords for those who want to capture that warm, signature CSNY sound and take the song to the next level.

Ready to play?

Jump into the lesson and take it at your own pace. If you have questions along the way or want some feedback, we'd love to hear from you. Send us a progress update at support@guitarfam.com or post a video for review in the GuitarFam forum. We're always rooting for you.

Happy playing,

Nate & Chelsea

Terrific lesson Nate!

That vocal by Chelsea is so, so beautiful!

I like that you showed all the decorations as well as the fingerstyle ideas. Also dug the electric stuff in the jam track.
